SANTA
ROSA, February 18 - David
Goodman, executive director of the
Redwood Empire Food Bank, has been
selected leader of the year in the
annual Excellence in Leadership
Award program hosted by Leadership
Santa Rosa and the Santa Rosa Chamber
of Commerce.
Goodman received the honors at the
second annual Good Morning Santa
Rosa awards program sponsored by
the Chamber. The February 13, attended
by some 200 business and community
leaders at the Hyatt Vineyard Creek
Hotel & Spa, marked Leadership
Santa Rosa’s 25th year of training
community leaders.
Goodman was cited for his leadership
of the REFB, the largest food bank
and hunger relief agency between
the Golden Gate Bridge and the Oregon
border, which serves 50,000 people
in need every month in Sonoma County
alone.
"This award is less about me
and more about you and the community,"
said in accepting the award. "Without
you and your support and the support
of the people of Sonoma County the
Redwood Empire Food Bank would not
be the successful hunger relief
agency that it is. So, for that
and this honor, thank you."
Goodman, executive director of the
REFB eight years, was named top
leader among nine other community
and business leaders also cited
for good work. Others included leaders
in agriculture, government, health
care, justice, education, business
and the economy, public relations
and media communications, natural
resources and quality of life, and
planning and development.
The REFB, working with 128 human
service agencies that operate 214
programs, serves people in need
in Sonoma, Lake, Mendocino, Humboldt
and Del Norte counties. During the
current fiscal year, it will distribute
more than 11 million pounds of food. |
